New Myrtle Beach Boardwalk

The new Mrytle Beach boardwalk is nearing completion. The new boards and fresh timbers seem to gleam with aticipation of the arrival of visitor to enjoy the 1.2 mile promanade that streaches from 14th Avenue North Pier to the 2nd Ave North Pier. This section pictured above is the North Section with a photo of the 14th Ave pier below.

There are three main sections with the center section being between 26 to 50 feet wide and will run up to beachfront stores and offer a carnival atmosphere for visitor entertainment and depited below. There are some local concerns, however, about the ammount of visitors that may make plans to come this summer season. The local jobs fair was cancelled due to a lack of participation from employers needing workers. This could be an indicator that local hotels are not anticipating a flood of vistors before they come. This in turn could leave the area businesses scrambling for help if the number continue to increase as they did last season.

Mrs. Fish

One look at this tiny store front and you may ask yourself if you are sure you want to go in. The fact that you actually noticed it was by pure chance and even most locals don't know it exists. However if you want a meal consisting of the best fish in town Mrs. Fish is where you want to go.

Once you are in you will find a quaint and comfortable setting in what looks like an old fish proccessing market occupied once in small part by a restaurant. Mrs. Fish is run by a few down to earth oriental people from China who have a wonderful was with people and ,well, of course, fish.

There is simply nowhere else in Myrtle Beach that you will get such an excellent fish dinner at a better price. Their menu includes everthing from Mahi Mahi to whiting and grouper as well as shrimp and what may very well be the best crab cakes available in the Myrtle Beach area. If you are visiting Myrtle Beach or even if you live here and you enjoy fish and seafood then this local secret is a must visit spot.

Disney in Myrtle Beach?

So what do you think are the chances that Mickey Mouse would visit Myrtle Beach? Well it is a visit that might not be that far off. Local rumor has it that Disney is looking at property along HWY 31 and may be moving in. Further rumor has it that they are in the review stage of building the east coast's largest indoor water park here in Myrtle Beach.

The indoor water park would allow visitors the luxury of enjoying the sun in a controlled environment year round. While dad is off putting the greens in a round of golf mom and kids could still enjoy the beach even during months that are cooler than favorable. It could also be enjoyed on days that are just too hot to enjoy normally.

If Disney did decide to build an amusement here in Myrtle Beach it would be a great uplift for the local economy. With many other proposed amusements on the table it would combine to make Myrtle Beach more of a family attraction. Maybe the rumor will become a reality and Micky and Minnie and the gang will drop on in. Do you think a person could swim with those Micky Mouse ears on?

The Myrtle Beach Pavilion Amusement Park Says Goodbye

Much to the dismay of many Myrtle Beach Locals and many visitors of Myrtle Beach the Myrtle Beach Pavilion Amusement Park will be closed down after this last year of operation. Also going with it will be the Attic teen club that hosts a cable channel show of its activities and the 4D theatre directly beneath the club.

Many people have speculated that the owners of the park might move it to the location where the old Myrtle Square Mall is currently being demolished but no statements have been made to any such effect. One thing is for sure the Pavilion will close after this summer and many people are upset. There are even online petitions taking place but to no avail since the final decision has been made.

So what do we have to look forward to in the amusement arena for Myrtle Beach? Well there are still other attractions all over the Grand Strand such as the Family Kindom Family Amusement and Water Park just a short drive south of the Pavilion. Also there is a brand new attraction being built right now for completion soon near 14th Ave North on the Ocean Boulivard known to locals as the "big ole sling shot". It's actually a ride where one to four people are strapped into a ball cage and sling shotted straight up in the air over 200 feet connected by a bungee type device. Sounds a little too exciting for me. I think I will just be watching, I am sure it will be just as fun fun!

Myrtle Beach : A Tale of Two Cities

It has often been said that Myrtle Beach tells the tale of two cities. I can remember when I was about 16 years old and I first visited Myrtle Beach with my cousin as soon as school dismissed for the summer. In South Carolina, going to Myrtle Beach for the first week in summer is a tradition if not a right of passage after graduating from high school.

Myrtle Beach 13 years ago was a totally different show all together. We took what money we could get an rented a few nights directly on Ocean Boulivard close to the Pavillion. What I witnessed those few nights would forever enchant me about Myrtle Beach. From that point on I loved this city, this wonderful place.

During that time in Myrtle Beach's history it was known more as a party beach than the family beach that it is steadily turning into. Many people called it the Sin City of South Carolina and with the city running out of money to fight porn shops and strip clubs it may still continue to hold some of that reputation.

I can remember people cruizing down the boulivard, stereos blasting loud as they could, dressed to impress, all hours of the night until about 5am when it slowed down for about an hour and then began to crank back up again. The night partiers had retired for some sleep and eats and the day timers started popping out again. For a 16 year old kid with a pocket full of money it was a delight of social events and new experiences that I will never forget.

Now as an adult I have lived in Myrtle Beach for about 4 years. I have travelled all over the country but I just couldn't stay away. I have been present here to watch Myrtle Beach begin to enforce laws and ordinaces to force Myrtle Beach into a new direction from party beach to family beach.

It is hard to ignore that Myrtle Beach is now the golf capitol of the world with more golf courses than anywhere I can imagine. With more that 60 small mom and pop hotels slated for destruction the direction is clear, UP! The plans for new hotel high rises and resorts are comming so fast that the local construction companies cannot keep up. Old amusements are going away and new ones are planned for our great city. Let's hope that the directions we take will be the right ones.
